Dear Summer,
Thank you for giving us an excuse to eat ice cream every day — sometimes more than once..
Love,
Everyone
There, now that that’s over with, let’s talk scooping. I always thought a scoop was a scoop was a scoop (unless you’re talking about a super-duper ultra-big scooper like this one). But the Huffington Post has just offered five tips to make scooping easier — and, by extension, make summer even better.
For softer ice cream and smoother scooping, the site suggests:
1. Putting your ice cream in a zip-top bag and removing the excess air before throwing it in the freezer
2. Running your scoop under hot water before digging into your ice cream
3. Using a knife to slice down the center of your ice cream, to soften it before scooping, or even …
4. … Cutting it into a checkerboard pattern
5. Scooping into an S-shape so it softens as you scoop
Excuse me while I go try out all of these ideas. And then try them again, just to be sure they actually work. And then maybe a little more.
Oh, and speaking of ice cream and zip-top bags, here’s a seriously cool recipe for making ice cream in a bag (no machine required!). Gotta love a recipe that tells you, “Start shaking!”
