Lily Aldrin and Michelle Flaherty: Those are just two of the names by which you may recognize actress Alyson Hannigan, who played those characters in How I Met Your Mother and American Pie, respectively. But on Tuesday, Oct. 4, Alyson is about to get a new title on Star Plates (11|10c): line cook. She’s heading into the kitchen at Michael Voltaggio’s Los Angeles restaurant Ink to learn the step-by-step process for executing one of the eatery’s most-famed desserts. Before her stint in a professional kitchen, we caught up with Alyson to get the dish on some of culinary cravings — and one of her biggest kitchen mishaps. Read on below to find out what she had to say.
What’s your favorite type of cuisine to eat (Italian, Thai, Mexican, etc.)?
Alyson Hannigan: Italian.
What’s your biggest cooking flop?
AH: Made a beautiful cake and no sooner than it was out of the oven, it ended up in pieces on the floor.
What’s the strangest thing we’d find in your refrigerator at home right now?
AH: Tortoise food.
What is your go-to takeout order?
AH: Sushi.
What one item do you always ask to be stocked in your green room?
AH: Nothing, really.
What is your favorite pizza topping?
AH: Black olives.
What’s your favorite burger topping?
AH: Relish.
What’s your favorite guilty-pleasure food?
AH: Candy.
What’s one must-have dish at your last supper?
AH: It would be something really decadent, something where calories don’t matter. [It] may not all go together but would definitely involve french fries — like lobster pasta, fries and a banana split. If it’s my last meal, I’ve got to go all out.
What’s your go-to late-night snack?
AH: A grapefruit if I’m trying to be healthy; if not, it would be Hot Tamales.
Tune in to Star Plates on Tuesday at 11|10c.
