This Couple Served Pizza Cake at Their Wedding

This Couple Served Pizza Cake at Their WeddingTraditional wedding cakes can be things of true, tiered beauty, but some couples prefer to kick it a bit more whimsical when it comes to dessert on their big day. That’s where sweet trends like pie tables, cupcake towers and doughnut walls come in.

But even those alterna-treats look downright conventional next to the saucy wedding cake a Miami couple — high school sweethearts Jessica and Tony Sanchez — served the guests who had gathered to celebrate their nuptials. Their choice? A pizza cake.

Jessica recently told the wedding blog Wedding Chicks that she and Tony, a professional baseball player, wanted their reception to feel “like a celebration of us and our love, not just another party.” So the couple, who have been together for 13 years and spent two years planning their big day, decided to imbue every element of the celebration with their personal style “without becoming too cheesy.”

Overall, the celebration appears to have been tasteful and elegant, but the couple clearly didn’t shy away from cheesiness altogether.

“Tony and I love pizza and aren’t huge fans of cake, so we surprised our guests with Pizza Cake (yes, I said pizza cake!),” Jessica wrote. “It was saucy and delicious and what pizza dreams are made of.”

Bubbling pizza pies were stacked on tiered stands, prettily decorated with leaves of basil. Topping? Better than pepperoni. The topmost pizza boasted a happy-looking bride-and-groom cake topper. So cute.
