Teeny Tiny Avocados Are Made for Solo Snackers

The question raised by Trader Joe’s latest (rather cute) produce innovation is this: Have we been waiting all our lives for miniature, single-serving avocados?

Trader Joe’s Teeny Tiny Avocados, as they have been dubbed, are roughly the size of a lime, come six in a bag, and retail for $2.69 or $2.99, depending on where in the country you live. Their aim is to rid the world of that uncomfortable moment when, halfway through the avocado you’re spreading on your toast or slicing (carefully, please) into your salad, you pause over the other half and wonder, hey, what do I do with the rest of this avocado? Do I finish it now because it’s there and fresh (and OK, not exactly low-cal)? Or do I wrap it up and put it in the fridge, where I’m super-likely to forget all about it until it’s old and black and shriveled and fuzzy?

Trader Joe’s “personal, single-serve, ‘where have you been all my life’-sized Hass Avocados … are a dream come true for true avocado aficionados,” the company boasts.

And hey, maybe they are. Though not everyone is convinced.

“Is it just me or would eating a teeny tiny avocado be like getting to the bottom of an empty jar of peanut butter? Nightmare! I’ll take the biggest one they’ve got,” wrote Instagrammer heyfittylady.

“I want a teeny tiny one!!!!! I hate only using a half and the next day it isn’t as good!!!” responded curkychaibbg.

So, you know, there’s room for debate, although, as Trader Joe’s points out, those with bigger avocado needs can always just eat the whole bag.

Now, if only they’d make a version that’s impervious to the dread “avocado hand” everyone’s avocado dreams may come true.
